Innovative! Exciting! Educational!

Creating the Welsh Composers of the Future by Involving Them Now

The ultimate aim of the Young Composer of Dyfed is to improve the quality of musical composition among young people in the area and to help create a cohort of fine Welsh composers in future years.

There are two elements to our programme:
educational, running between September and January; and
competitive, entered in October, with entries received in February and those chosen, by a professional composer engaged as adjudicator, invited, in April, to a day of masterclasses, a public concert of their music and the award of prizes.

Music composition is the Cinderella of the curriculum. The Young Composer of Dyfed programme aims to redress this imbalance by educating school pupils and music teachers in the art and focusing this education with a competition.
